This is the seventh album from Gamelan Sinar Surya, a group of musicians and dancers from Santa Barbara, California, USA who have dedicated themselves to the preservation and flowering of the traditional arts of Cirebon, Indonesia.

Included here are eight pieces from the repertoire of Gamelan Prawa, traditional Gamelan music found in Cirebon, Indonesia. There is also one piece from a rarely heard form of Gamelan from Malaysia known as Gamelan Melayu. The music was recorded especially for the UCSB Summer Music Festival on August 22, 2021 before a live audience.

This album is dedicated to our dear friend Ki Donn Howell: longtime member of Gamelan Sinar Surya, expert Rebab player, and founder of the UC Santa Barbara Gamelan program back in 1986. Matur kesuwun Ki Donn 🙏🏼

Ini adalah album ketujuh dari Gamelan Sinar Surya, sebuah kelompok musisi dan penari dari Santa Barbara, California, USA yang mendedikasikan diri kepada pelestarian dan pengembangan seni tradisional Cirebon, Jawa Barat, Indonesia.

Dalam album ini terdapat delapan buah lagu dari repertoar gamelan Prawa, salah satu jenis gamelan tradisional yang terdapat di Cirebon, Indonesia. Ada juga satu lagu dari segaya gamelan yang jarang terdengar: yaitu Gamelan Melayu dari Malaysia. Musik ini direkam pada 22 Agustus 2021 di depan penonton langsung, khusus untuk UCSB Summer Music Festival.

Album ini di dedikasikan untuk sahabat kami Ki Donn Howell: anggota lama Gamelan Sinar Surya, ahli main Rebab, dan pendiri program gamelan di Universitas California Santa Barbara pada tahun 1986. Matur kesuwun Ki Donn 🙏🏼
